My Current Position
I am currently the Year Four Homeroom Teacher and Primary and Early Years Coordinator at Meritton British International School in Chiang Mai. We are a Values-Based School which follows the Cambridge International Assessments Primary Curriculum, and we employ an Enquiry-Based Learning approach.
As a teacher, I prioritise the establishment of a learning environment which is conducive to learning. This means not only allowing students to remain on-task, but building strong learning relationships in the class and creating an emotional environment in which all students feel valued, confident, and safe to try their best. I pride myself in my highly effective, restorative classroom management and my attentive and caring nature as a teacher. I have strong skills in differentiation and formative assessment, and naturally form strong rapport with my students.
My successes in the role of Primary Coordinator include:
- Leading and coordinating a team of over 20 teaching staff.
- Taking a lead role in the design, development and implementation of the school’s Values-Based Education approach.
- Playing an integral support role alongside the Principal and Secondary Coordinator as we guided the school through the process of attaining accreditation.
- Implementing the WWF Eco-Schools programme at the school.
- Running training sessions in Phonics instruction, Classroom Management, Planning, Teaching and Assessment, Mindfulness in the Classroom, Report-Writing and Communication with Parents.
- Designing the entire primary school curriculum to meet the learning objectives of the latest edition of the Cambridge International Assessments Primary Curriculum, whilst allowing teachers freedom to teach in an authentic, enquiry-based manner.
- Creating teacher planning and assessment data documents which drastically streamlined the planning and assessment process.
- Writing assessment rubrics for teachers to follow.
- Coordinating the report-writing process each term.
- Completing my Master of Arts in Education thesis, which was an action research project into classroom management strategies at the school. I used the findings of my research to write a document outlining guidelines for classroom management best practice in an educational context which prioritises the development of Social, Emotional and Moral competencies in students. Following from this, I then advised in the writing of the school’s classroom management policy document.
- Mentoring a teaching colleague as she completed her initial teacher training with TES.
- Supervising an intern from a local university as he completed his internship with us.
